accessibility header

This website has been built with the intention of making the content accessible to the widest range of visitors, regardless of any impairment. This has been achieved by adhering to best practice, such as compliance with W3C standards.

We make every effort to ensure that all pages on this site are valid to Extensible Hyper Text Mark-up Language (XHTML) 1.0 Transitional and use valid Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

All pages contain a link to the home page, and the menu system has been constructed in a consistent fashion throughout. The additional breadcrumb navigation system is designed to reinforce awareness of the page being viewed within the website. A Site Map page is viewable to increase overall access to all available information.

Many links have title attributes, which describe the link in greater detail. Links are written to make sense out of context.

All content images include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.

Smart phone users and other visitors with screen widths below 700 pixels are automatically directed (using a javscript) to an alternative non graphic and horizontal navigation Pure Quiz website.

This site only uses relative font sizes compatible with user-specified "text size" options in visual browsers. There is also a text re-sizer at the top of each page which enables users to change the text size as required.

You may also increase the size of the text on the Pure Quiz website by using tools built into your browser.

  • Internet Explorer users: select the 'view' option at the top of the page, choose 'text size' and pick either larger or largest.
  • Mozilla and Firefox users: select the 'view' option at the top of the page, choose 'text size' (in Firefox version 3 and above choose 'Zoom') and use the 'increase' function until the text is a satisfactory size.

You can change the text size in other browsers in similar ways.

Scripts, applets and plug-ins

Our website does not use applets i.e. programs designed to be executed from within another program or plug-ins i.e. programs that add features to a standard browser, and the use of javascript has been strictly limited.

Navigating this site without using a mouse

We have decided not to use access keys on this site. On all pages, you can move between links using the 'Tab' key on the keyboard. To tab through the links in the opposite direction, key 'Shift+Tab'. Once a link is highlighted, key 'Enter' to follow the link.

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts which allow users to navigate around a website without using a mouse or other pointing device.

  • Access keys can override keyboard shortcuts for screen readers and other assistive technology.
  • There is no convention on access keys, so the few sites that use them do so in whichever way they choose. Users are unlikely to spend time getting used to a particular set of access keys.

For these reasons, we do not use access keys.
